Men's trousers: suit, smart or casual, find the right fit
Trousers are worn more often than jackets: they are the hardest-working piece in a man's wardrobe. The Jerem men's trousers collection brings together three families designed to complement each other: suit trousers in Super 120's wool and stretch twills, smart trousers in gabardine, tricotine, houndstooth or corduroy, and more relaxed styles in herringbone or five-pocket cuts. Enough to cover the office, appointments and the weekend with the same attention to fit. When the outfit turns more relaxed, a pair of men's jeans takes over.
Suit trousers or smart trousers: what's the difference?
Suit trousers are cut from the same fabric as their jacket: virgin wool, end-on-end, Prince of Wales check knit or chalk stripes. They are worn as a suit, or on their own with a shirt for a smart outfit. Smart trousers are designed to be worn as separates: washed cotton gabardine, stretch tricotine, mélange houndstooth or corduroy. They pair with a blazer, a jumper or an overshirt, and give a polished look without the formality of a suit. Browse the full selection in our suit trousers and our casual trousers.
Which men's trouser fit should you choose?
A slim fit follows the leg without squeezing it: it lengthens the silhouette and suits slim to medium builds. A straight fit leaves more room at the thigh and calf, a safe choice for athletic builds. Pleated styles add fullness at the hips, with a more classic drape. Some Jerem suit trousers feature an adjustable waist, useful for gaining a centimetre of comfort without alterations.
Which fabric for which use?
- Super 120's wool, merino wool, Vitale Barberis Canonico: the drape and shape retention of a fine fabric, for suits and formal occasions.
- Stretch twill and gabardine: hard-wearing and supple, perfect for everyday office wear.
- Technical knits and jersey: comfort close to that of lounge trousers, with a smart look.
- Corduroy and tricotine: texture and warmth for autumn and winter.
Can trousers be machine washable?
Yes. Several Jerem suit trousers are machine washable, such as the yarn-dyed two-way stretch twill style. They keep their shape in the wash and cut down on trips to the dry cleaner's, a real time-saver if you wear a suit all week. Always follow the care label: delicate cycle, low temperature and dry flat or on a hanger.
What length should your trousers be?
Length makes the difference between decent trousers and impeccable ones. For a contemporary look, aim for a slight break: the trouser hem grazes the shoe without creasing. Slim fit trousers are worn slightly shorter, straight fit trousers slightly longer. If in doubt, a hem alteration is simple and transforms the result.
How do you style smart trousers?
Smart trousers are the foundation of smart casual. In grey or navy, they go with a white shirt and a blazer for the office, or with a roll-neck jumper for dinner. Corduroy and houndstooth add texture to a plain outfit. To put together a suit without buying the full set, play with our mix & match suits.
Why choose Jerem trousers?
Jerem men's trousers combine selected fabrics (Super 120's wool, Barberis, technical twills) with cuts designed for movement: stretch, adjustable waist, washable styles. From suit trousers to jeans, every style is made to last and to fit in with the rest of the Jerem wardrobe, from shirts to jackets.
